How to Get aNew Jersey Medical Marijuana Card

If you’re interested in getting a New Jersey medical marijuana card, the following steps will guide you through the process. The card is your key to the dispensary and we look forward to serving you when we open our doors.

Step 1: ELIGIBILITY

If you live in New Jersey and you have a qualifying medical condition, you are eligible to apply for your medical marijuana card. Patients diagnosed with any of the following medical conditions are eligible to apply for a patient certification:

  • Anxiety
  • Chronic pain related to musculoskeletal disorders
  • Chronic digestive system pain
  • Opioid use disorder (as an adjunct to Medication Assisted Therapy)
  • Migraine
  • Glaucoma
  • Intractable skeletal muscular spasticity
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • ALS
  • Cancer
  • Terminal illness, if the physician has determined a patient has less than 12 months to live
  • Tourette’s syndrome

Step 2: PHYSICIAN RECOMMENDATION

The next step is to obtain your doctor recommendation from a physician who is registered with the NJ Medicinal Marijuana Program. When discussing medical cannabis with your doctor, it’s important to be honest about your health situation and explain why you believe medical cannabis treatment will be beneficial for you. If your doctor agrees to recommend for you, they’ll need to submit an “attending physician statement” on your behalf. Once the physician statement is entered, you’ll receive a patient reference number, which you’ll need when completing your patient application.

Step 3: PATIENT APPLICATION

Once your doctor has submitted your recommendation, the next step is submitting your patient application, available here. Be sure to fill out all sections of the form and include the required documents. After submitting your application, you’ll receive an email with instructions on paying the registration fee. The cost is $200 or a reduced fee of $20 for those who qualify. Once payment is submitted, your application is complete.

The New Jersey Medicinal Marijuana Program must approve or deny your application within 30 days. If your application is approved, your medical marijuana card must be issued to you within 5 days
